I’m proud to be a Society of Virtual Assistants (SVA) approved VA.

Yep, I’ve ticked all the boxes, met the standards, and officially got the stamp of approval.

But what does that actually mean for you? And why should you care?

Let me explain.

What is the Society of Virtual Assistants?

The SVA is a UK-based organisation that sets professional standards for virtual assistants. When you hire an SVA-approved VA, you’re choosing someone who has been independently verified to meet strict industry requirements and operates with professionalism, security, and reliability.

It’s not just a badge. It’s a baseline.

What SVA approval actually requires

To become SVA-approved, a VA has to meet several criteria. Here’s what that looks like in practice.

At least one year of proven experience

SVA-approved VAs must have at least one year of experience or have been an SVA Community Member for at least three months. So you’re getting an established professional, not someone who decided to give it a go last Tuesday.

Legally compliant contracts

Professional VAs operate with proper contracts drafted by a UK-based solicitor. These set clear expectations and protect both the client and the VA, so there are no grey areas or awkward conversations later.

Data protection and GDPR compliance

Handling client data is a serious responsibility. SVA-approved VAs are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and follow UK data protection laws, so sensitive information is always handled correctly and securely.

Professional indemnity insurance

An added layer of protection for both parties. In the unlikely event something goes wrong, there’s cover in place. (You can read more about my own insurance in this post.)

Secure data backup practices

Technology isn’t foolproof. Approved VAs must back up data securely off-site, so important files are never lost due to a tech failure.

A professional and secure website

An SVA-approved VA must have a professional website with an Acceptable Use Policy, a secure HTTPS connection, a clear Privacy Policy, a Cookie Policy, and Website Terms and Conditions.

Why this matters when you’re choosing a VA

Working with an SVA-approved VA means you’re hiring someone who takes their business and yours seriously.

You get peace of mind knowing your VA meets high industry standards. Your data is handled properly and legally. Contracts and insurance protect both parties. You’re working with an experienced professional, not someone figuring it out as they go.

Bringing a VA into your business is a big decision. The SVA approval gives you an independent reason to trust that decision.
