Why I Use FreeAgent for My Business

(And why you might want to, too)

Running a business is a lot. Invoices, expenses, tax deadlines, bank feeds… a never-ending admin carousel of doom.

And while I genuinely love helping other business owners get their systems in order, I also know that not everything needs to be manual. Some things are better handed off to the robots.

That’s why I use FreeAgent.

It takes care of the financial admin so I can focus on actually running my business, and helping clients do the same.

Why FreeAgent works for small business owners

I started using FreeAgent because it came free with my Mettle business banking account. And obviously, we love a freebie. So I gave it a go.

I’d heard good things. People raving, saying it changed their lives (or at least their tax return situation). And turns out… they weren’t wrong.

Even if you’re not with Mettle, FreeAgent is super intuitive. And they run free webinars to help you get the most out of it, very handy if you’re more “mild panic” than “finance queen.”

Side note: if you’re with Mettle, you’ll need to make at least one transaction a month to keep FreeAgent free. Just in case you were wondering.

What I love about FreeAgent

Invoicing without the faff

Send, track, and automate invoices like a pro. I’ve got mine scheduled for retainer clients, so there I am, sitting at swimming lessons early on a Saturday morning, and… ping, ping, ping… invoices go out like magic. Bliss.

Expenses sorted

Snap receipts, upload them, and they’re filed. No more carrier bags full of crumpled proof-of-purchase misery.

Tax tools if you need them

I don’t personally use these because I have a human accountant, but FreeAgent does have built-in tools for managing tax if you’re the DIY type.

Bank feeds = less admin

Link your bank account and transactions appear automatically. You just match them up and approve. Done. Move on with your life.

What this has to do with a VA

Even the best software doesn’t replace a human.

I work with plenty of brilliant business owners who’ve got great systems in place and still feel swamped. Because it’s not just about having the right tools. It’s about having time, capacity, and actual mental space to use them properly.

That’s where a VA comes in.

I help with the day-to-day admin, the routine tasks, the inboxes and blog uploads and background bits that keep things ticking. So you can focus on the work you love. (And maybe even clock off on time.)

Have a look at my Strategic VA services if that sounds like what you need.

You can get 30 days free and 10% off ongoing using my link: fre.ag/4kh5qplp with code 4kh5qplp.

Yes, it’s an affiliate link. But full disclosure: I don’t actually earn anything from it since I already get FreeAgent free via Mettle. This one’s just a win for you.

Final thought

FreeAgent won’t fix your business overnight. But it will take a chunk of admin off your plate, and honestly, that’s a pretty great start.

And if you’re still feeling overwhelmed even with the right tools in place, you might find it useful to step back and get everything out of your head first. That’s exactly what Waffle & Write is for. A focused session where you talk, I listen, and we turn whatever’s swirling into a proper written summary you can actually do something with and walk away with a clear brain.
