If you’ve ended up here after scouring the entire internet… same.
Honestly.
If you’ve clicked your way through every VA website, compared them all, read the blogs, devoured every “How I became a VA” story—and still feel like you’re knee-deep in chaos… welcome. You’re not alone. And no, you haven’t missed some secret scroll only the chosen ones get.
I did the exact same thing. Thinking, OMG, can I be like them??
Hours of lurking. Tabs open like it was a competitive sport. A thrilling cocktail of:
- “I could totally do this”
- “Wait, can I?”
- “What even is ICO and should I be worried?”
So…this blog? It’s for you. And the ghost of me.
And maybe, just maybe, it’ll save you from spiralling into yet another “should I design a Canva logo and lose 47,382 hours of my life or register with HMRC?” moment.
The overwhelm is real (and so is the excitement)
Becoming a Virtual Assistant felt like discovering a whole new world… with absolutely no map.
It was exciting. But also deeply confusing.
Do I need a niche? Do I need to go on LinkedIn? Should I spend £XXX on a course, or just binge YouTube with a notebook and hope for the best?
I needed clarity. And humour. Preferably both.
Then I found Catherine Gladwyn
I started with her book, devoured it in a weekend. In a caravan on holiday to be precise. And I was ill.
Sharp. Funny. Zero fluff.
She felt like the first person speaking to me, not at me. Just solid advice, delivered in a way that made my fast little brain go, “Ahhh, finally.”
The one course I always recommend
I’ve bought nearly all of Catherine’s courses by now, like some mad game of business bingo.
But the one I always point people to is her VA Starter Guide.
👉 Here’s my affiliate link to all her courses Because yes, I’m an affiliate now. That’s how much I rate her.
If your budget can stretch, I’d 100% go for the bundle. You get the Starter Guide plus her other courses that’ll help you stay sane during your VA journey (and avoid some panicked 1am Googles).
The bundle didn’t exist when I started. Still love you, Catherine. Just mildly jealous of the newbies.
Why I’m sharing this (and why it matters)
I’m not here to pressure you.
I just really wish a VA had written a blog like this when I was in your shoes.
You don’t have to figure it all out from scratch, while piecing together random advice from strangers on TikTok, Reddit, Youtube or Facebook.
Sometimes it’s worth paying for a shortcut. Especially one that’s been road-tested by someone who’s been exactly where you are.
And if Catherine’s course is the thing that helps you feel clear, confident, and ready to get going? Then honestly, it’s worth it.
In short…
If you’re wondering how to become a Virtual Assistant and don’t want to lose days (or your sanity) in the process…
Go have a look at Catherine Gladwyn’s VA Starter Guide. It’s the one I wish I’d started with. And now, as an actual VA with actual clients, I’m still grateful I found her.
You’re not behind. You’re just beginning.
And I’m rooting for you.
Quietly. From my laptop. With snacks. And pets.
